Ladies Welcome!

Contrary to what some might think, Civil War reenacting is definitely not just for men. The 4th New Hampshire/7th South Carolina sports a spirited group of women known as our Ladies Auxiliary. The LA is made up of the wives and sweethearts of the men of the unit. Each lady brings unique talents and gifts to our campfire. Among us are a professional seamstress, a teacher, a business CEO, a photographic design specialist, wives, mothers, grandmothers and so much more!

We have chosen to act not only independently but also in a supportive role to our fighting men. We work to make our impressions accurate but relaxed. Each of us strives to create an individual impression that will spark interest among visitors to camp. When you drop in on our camp you will be welcomed by our Captain’s wife, see one of our ladies portraying a period nurse, our Chaplain’s wife is always available to converse, and our current LA President can be seen crafting lovely, hand sewn effects. We make care packages for our men and help around camp as needed, although generally we have very little work to do because our men’s unit includes a full time camp cook.

So, whether you visit our camp as curious spectator or potential conscript you will be welcomed by the Ladies of the 4th New Hampshire/7th South Carolina with a warm smile, an invitation to “sit a spell” and enjoy an afternoon’s chat. Please check our unit’s schedule, find an upcoming event, and consider yourself personally invited to share in our love of history.

See you around the campfire!
